Meet the Team

Alicia Peterson B.S., M.A., Psy.D Candidate, LMFT #115220 Owner/Supervisor

Hi, I’m Alicia Peterson—a licensed therapist with decades of experience walking with individuals, couples, and families through disconnection, hurt, and significant life transitions. My work is rooted in neuroscience, mindfulness, and attachment theory. I care deeply about helping people understand the underlying reasons behind the hurts. I don’t want you to just cope but to truly heal and grow.

After traveling through diverse cultures and experiencing different social and economic perspectives, I have come to realize that suffering is a common thread that unites us. We all endure pain. The key lies in what we allow that pain to reveal about ourselves. It can either empower us or lay the groundwork for fear; in either case, it directly influences our identity. As stated in Proverbs 23:7, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” René Descartes famously said, “Cogito, ergo sum,” which translates to “I think, therefore I am.” Our self-perception shapes the way we view the world. Therefore, investing in a better understanding of ourselves is not selfish. Gaining clarity about who you are and how you perceive the world around you changes everything.

Zach Zimmer B.S., M.S., AMFT #149969

Why do I do what I do? I do this work because I believe in the power of meaningful connection. I have never been one for small talk and have always been drawn to the conversations that matter, the ones that help us understand ourselves and each other more deeply. I also believe that every human being has the capacity for growth and change. Sometimes we just need someone to believe in us when we are having difficulty believing in ourselves. As a therapist, it is such a gratifying feeling to be able to walk alongside individuals as they rediscover their strengths, resilience, and potential.

Why do I love what I do? I know what it feels like first hand to struggle with mental illness. I love this work because it allows me to help others develop connections and find their purpose which I believe are two of the most important things in life. There is something incredibly powerful about sitting with someone in their most vulnerable moments and helping them feel seen, heard and understood. I am constantly inspired by the resilience of the human spirit and the courage it takes to show up and do the work of healing. Being part of someone’s growth, watching them find hope, build confidence and create change is something I never take for granted. It is not just a privilege, it is a calling, and why I strive to show up and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those that I serve.

Work Experience? I have over eight years of experience in the mental health field. My career began in addiction treatment—my area of specialty—where I’ve worked in both residential and outpatient settings. I’m a registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor II (CADC-II). In addition to my work in substance use recovery, I have experience
supporting children, young adults, and adults facing a wide range of mental health challenges. I’ve worked in community mental health agencies and private practice, which has given me the opportunity to work with diverse populations. I often incorporate evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients build insight, develop coping strategies, and create meaningful change.
